Lying in the heart of the Sneeuberg mountains, Doornberg is situated 60 km from Graaff-Reinet and just outside Nieu Bethesda with it’s well known Owl House. Accommodation is in a fully equipped guest house, a stable flat, Rondavel or in our beautifully renovated Vlei cottage. The new camping facilities for an exclusive camping and private experience is already a favorite. Relax, soak up the sun, enjoy the peace and quiet of the Karoo. Go bird watching, game viewing or just……curl up in front of a log fire on a cold winter evening……………
This Family farm has been farmed for 5 generations over 130 years. 200 year-old oaks surround the homestead and numerous fountains and streams give one a sense of peace and tranquility. The farm with its gracious hospitality and friendly staff is reminiscent of days of yesterday. The main source of income is wool and mutton farming, with beef cattle contributing a healthy share. A spring is used to irrigate the lucerne & maize fields, which supply enough feed to finish off market stock.
Organic farming in a modern viable context has become an important tool in keeping abreast of holistic trends. This in practice means that the use of poisons, dips, doses to animals, fertilizers and weed killers are kept to a minimum unless animal health is at risk.
